Fantazzztic!

For the reason that I am in the mood for watching Wu Xia (is a broad genre of Chinese fiction set in an ancient China settings which mainly involves kung fu, martial artist/pugilist and chi cultivation you name it) themed drama this days (Currently watching the 2003 adaptation of Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre, The third part of Jinyong’s trilogy).

I’ve’ been itching to try out a new Chinese themed game for quite some time now (Perfect World and Zhu Xian is an exemption). We’ll there is this part of me who pictures myself as a pugilist who wears an intricate and sophisticated long sleeved robe, a magnificently crafted headdress or even a piece of cloth that serves as a ribbon in my long and shiny black hair. Holding a sword that points into the direction that his taking. Flying (jumping) gracefully and passionately at the top of those thin yet tough bamboo trees with dignity. Sounds like crouching tiger, hidden dragon aren’t it? I won’t blame you if you imagined it.

Speaking of role playing and Chinese themed games there will be a new MMORPG based on the epic battle of Red Cliff during the era of the three kingdoms in China (Wu, Zhu and Wei). From the origination and concept itself this new MMORPG is called “Chi Bi” or Red Cliff, Developed by the company who brought us some popular Chinese themed MMO’s such as Perfect World (Wan Mei) Ether Saga and Jade Dynasty (Zhu Xian), yes we are talking about the Chinese MMO developer Perfect World. In our case (circle of friends), we sarcastically labeled that company us as a game developer that lacks creativity (ZX 1, ZX 2 and Fantasy ZX anyone?), It will be hosted by a Malaysian based game publishing company known from publishing MMORPG’s from the said game developer, Cubinet Interactive Sdn Bnd.

This game never fail to catch my attention, my seasonal fascination to MMORPG like this played a major factor and as a person who watched the latest movie adaptation of the battle of the red cliff 1 and 2 (TV Series Drama will be available soon). Curiosity strikes me asking myself “how will they incorporate all the necessary elements and events about the battle of the red cliff in an MMO?”

About the Game:

It was an era of warfare and those fighting for their objectives and goals were embroiled in fiery conflicts. Turmoil of the Ten Attendants that happened at the beginning of the Jian’an era caused the disappearance of the Imperial Seal and this left the Han Dynasty in jeopardy. Get ready to enter the realm of the Red Cliff where you take charge of your army as one of the heroes in the Three Kingdoms.

Game Features:

18 Weapon System – Red Cliff is the pioneer in the 18 Weapons that became famous in the gaming history of China. Players can now choose to master one weapon and match with another secondary weapon to perform better.

Concept of Mobile Attack – Red Cliff game character’s action sequence is overseen by a famous martial art choreographer in person. Using advanced motion capture system, every skill and movement in the game emulates real-life action. Attack range is no longer limited to where you stand, you can now leap, pierce, slash, chop, block… Red Cliff restored classical Chinese martial arts, performed in front of you as real! You can now fight in game!

War of the three kingdoms – Equally divided three kingdoms. Our heroes are losing their balance of conquered land. After a long period of serenity, Wei from north, Shu from west and Wu from east are well-equipped and their armies trained well; the threat of war hangs by a thread.

Greatest Battlefield System – Conquest, Romance, Legend, and Supremacy- the perfect four battlefields completes the Red Cliff battlefield system. (PVP, PVE, Clan/Territorial etc.)

Dominating Land and a Stronger Army – March your troop of elite army to storm enemies’ gates, sweeping aside those that get in the way of your conquest and expand your land. Lead your Army well into the battle field and show the world your mighty army.

Fine and Flawless Item Production – Production system is essential in Red Cliff. From smiting weapons to cooking delicacies, players can also produce enhanced stone in several attributes to create their own unique equipment.

Everyone can rule – The official Ranking System paves both literary and military road for players. Even valiant heroes or an educated sage can have the authority to rule the world.

Rewriting History – You would want to record your glorious conquests. As it accumulates, it will become your personal reputation. For those obscure players, earning greater reputation signifies gaining greater support from people within the area. In other words, reputation symbolizes your personal status in Red Cliff.

Anyway based on the screen shots and videos, the graphics has a tremendous similarity to Zhu Xian especially the way on how the special effects is presented (okay okay it is developed by Perfect World!). The 18 weapon system seems to be intriguing, since I decided that I will be participating in the close beta I will be choosing a ‘FAN” as my weapon ala Ouyang Ke, another intriguing factor will be the so called “choreographed by martial arts movement” we’ll to see is to believe. If I see a robotic movement during those so called times then I will be totally disappointed.

The Close Beta Test for Red Cliff will be held tomorrow at 2:00PM GMT+8 September 23 2009, All you need to do is to sign up for a Cubinet Account and active “Red Cliff” in the Game Activation list that you can see upon registering.

On a side note there will be another MMORPG based on the epic battle of the red cliff again and it’s Called Warriors of the three kingdoms, I wonder how many MMORPG are based on the said historical battle.

Will i become a Zhu, Wu or a Wei? Decisions.. Decisions…
